Is there a Duolingo for geography?
Not from Duolingo itself, but several apps copy its loop of short lessons, streaks and review. GeoWiz does it for maps, outlines and flags with spaced repetition; Globo adds interactive courses, online battles and leagues; Quible has a learning path with chapters, lessons and a boss per chapter, plus streaks and a review box, for flags, countries and history.
The short answer
- Duolingo has no geography course (its courses are languages, math, music and chess).
- For maps and outlines with spaced repetition: GeoWiz (no account, no ads, offline, per its listing).
- For interactive courses plus online matches and ranked leagues: Globo.
- For a path of lessons with a boss per chapter, streaks and 13 quiz formats: Quible (flags, countries, capitals, history, numbers).
- For pure map drilling: Seterra, the long-standing map quiz, in the browser and as an app.
What makes an app “like Duolingo”?
Four things. Short lessons in a fixed order, so you always know the next step. A streak that rewards showing up every day. Some form of review that brings back what you got wrong. And a limit or reward system (hearts, energy, XP, leagues) that paces you.
A geography app can have some of these without the others. A map quiz with great spaced repetition but no path feels like flashcards; a path with no review feels like a game you finish once. The apps below differ mostly in which parts they take.
Which geography apps work like Duolingo?
By what each app says about itself:
| App | Path / lessons | Streak / daily | Review of mistakes | Topics |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| GeoWiz | Learning mode with tracked progress | Daily challenge, streak | Spaced repetition, due-card reviews | Outlines, flags, capitals, map placement, languages, currencies |
| Globo | Interactive geography courses | Not stated | Not stated | Countries, flags, capitals, maps, landmarks; online 1v1, live matches, ranked leagues |
| Seterra | No path; 300+ separate map quizzes | Not stated | Not stated | Map locations, flags, capitals |
| Quible | 5 chapters, 20 lessons, a boss per chapter | Streak (10 XP a day), daily goal, 3 dailies | Missed rounds return in the session and later from a review box | Flags, countries, capitals, history, numbers, trivia |
GeoWiz, Globo, Seterra: their App Store listings (US), 25 September 2026. Quible: version 1.1.
How does Quible’s learning path work?
The path has five chapters: Flag Basics, Europe, Capitals, World History and Head for Numbers. Each chapter is a row of lessons that unlock one after another; a lesson is a short set of rounds from one of the 13 games, filtered to a topic such as stars and crescents on flags or Alpine rivers. The last stop of every chapter is a boss lesson, and passing it opens the next chapter. Chests along the way give double XP for the next rounds or a fact for your collection.
Around the path sit the daily habits: a streak that holds if you earn 10 XP a day, a daily goal of 20, 50 or 100 XP, and three dailies (a connections board plus a knowledge and a geography pack). Wrong answers come back three rounds later and again days later from your review box.
Where is Quible different from Duolingo, and from GeoWiz?
Quible has energy instead of hearts: ten, one per finished session, one back every 30 minutes, and wrong answers never cost energy. There are no leagues and no online players; the duel is for up to four people on one phone. And it is narrower than Duolingo’s courses: five chapters, not hundreds of units.
Compared with GeoWiz, Quible has no map and no outline mode, so it will not teach you where a country is. It is the better fit if you want variety (13 quiz formats, history and numbers next to geography) and a path to follow; GeoWiz is the better fit if your goal is the map itself.
