Which quiz games can two people play on one phone?
Two kinds of app work on a single iPhone: split-screen quizzes where both players answer at the same time, like 2 Player Quiz and QuizFloor, and pass-and-play games where you hand the phone over, like 9Guess and Quible. Quible’s duel is free for two players and works offline; online duel apps such as Trivia Crack need a phone each.
The short answer
- Both answer at once, split screen: 2 Player Quiz Multiplayer Game, QuizFloor (two players only).
- Pass the phone, take turns: 9Guess (2 to 4 teams, paid app, no ads), Quible (2 to 4 players).
- Quible’s duel is free for two: Closest Wins, 3 rounds. Quible Plus ($24.99 a year) opens 4 players and 8 games.
- Trivia Crack, QuizDuel and Quiz Planet are online games: each player needs their own phone and a connection.
What is the difference between split-screen and pass-and-play?
In a split-screen quiz the phone lies flat between you and each player owns one half of the screen. Both see the same question and whoever taps the right answer first scores. It is fast and loud, and it only works for two.
In a pass-and-play quiz you take turns: one person answers, hands the phone over, the next answers the same question without seeing the first answer. It is slower, but it works for more than two players and nobody wins just by tapping faster.

How does the duel in Quible work?
One iPhone, two to four players. Quible shows a handoff screen with the next player’s name, that player answers, then the phone goes on. Everyone gets the same round, so it is fair; there is no speed bonus, because the phone moves around.
The free duel is Closest Wins for two players, three rounds: Quib asks for a number, like how many people live in Germany, and the closer guess takes the point. With Quible Plus you can pick from eight duel games (Flag Blitz, Trivia, Fact or Fake, Higher or Lower and more), play 5 or 7 rounds, choose a difficulty and add up to four players. Duels never cost energy and work without internet.
Which one should you pick?
For a fast head-to-head between two people who like to race, a split-screen app is the better fit; Quible has no split screen. For a group of three or four, or for a mixed group where the faster tapper should not win by default, pick pass-and-play: 9Guess if you want a party game in English, French or Spanish; Quible if you want geography and history questions in English or German and a free way to start.
If you want to play against each other while apart, you need an online game such as Trivia Crack or QuizDuel; Quible has no online multiplayer.
