Capitals quiz: name the capitals of the world
One more game? I've got thirteen more.
Questions about Capitals Quiz. Short answers.
How does a round of the capitals quiz work?
Quib shows a flag and asks for the capital, for example "Capital of Australia?". Four cities, 10 seconds. A wrong tap or a timeout costs one of your 3 lives; after 10 rounds or three misses the session ends and you see your XP.
About one round in five is turned around: Quib names a capital such as Ouagadougou or Thimphu, and you pick the country. After every round Quib adds one fact about the city, like why Canberra was built from scratch or what the name Ulaanbaatar means.
Which capitals are in it, and where are the traps?
All but three countries are in it, from Europe to Oceania: 240 rounds in total. The wrong answers come from the same region, so you choose between Vilnius, Riga and Tallinn, not between Vilnius and Lima.
The classic trap is the biggest city. Sydney is not the capital of Australia, Istanbul is not the capital of Turkey, Toronto is not the capital of Canada. Quible tags these rounds and builds a whole lesson around them. You pick easy, medium or hard before you start, and you can turn the clock off.
What about countries with more than one capital?
They are in, and they are treated fairly. South Africa has three capitals (Pretoria, Cape Town and Bloemfontein), Bolivia splits its capital and its seat of government between Sucre and La Paz, Eswatini has two. In those rounds only one of the valid cities is among the four options, so a right answer never counts as wrong, and the fact explains the rest.
Three places are left out on purpose: Israel and Palestine, whose capital claims are disputed, and Nauru, which has no official capital at all. The full list with every capital is on the capitals of the world.
